second skin (tagaderm)

If you’re in the shower make sure you do it at the end and you have properly washed hands.

  • Take the wrap off 5-7 days from getting the tattoo.

  • Wash the tattooed area gently with your fingertips using an antibacterial unscented soap.

  • Once the tattooed skin feels like the skin around it, stop washing and pat dry with a clean paper towel.

  • Let it air dry for 24 hours before you apply lotion. I recommend light lotion with no color or scent. Aveeno lubriderm cetaphil etc. Use very little, proportional to your tattoo, 2-3 times a day until your tattoo is healed.

Healing time should be around 3-4 weeks.

Dry healing (old school)

Dry healing a tattoo is a method of aftercare that involves keeping the tattoo clean and dry. Steps are:

  • Wash
Gently wash the tattoo with warm water and antibacterial soap two to three times a day. Pat dry with a clean, lint-free towel or let it air dry.

  • Moisturize (only after 3-5 days after getting the tattoo)
Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or tattoo care product to keep the tattoo from drying out. Rub it in completely, but don't use too much, as this can cause scabs. Moisturize once a day or as needed, but always let the tattoo dry before applying more.

  • Protect
Avoid lotions, creams, balms, and other topical moisturizers. Keep the tattoo out of the sun, as the ink could fade and become patchy. Wear loose clothing to prevent rubbing and irritation, and to act as a barrier against outside elements.

  • Don't touch
Touching the tattoo can introduce bacteria and germs, which could lead to infection.

  • Hydrate
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

Remember to not soak under water, hot tubs, pools, lakes, etc, until your tattoo is fully healed.

Always make sure you wash your hands properly before taking the bandage off. Here are some tips on making sure you have properly washed hands.

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.

  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.

  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.

  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.

  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or an air dryer.
